  • Executive Diploma in Entrepreneurship

    This course has been specially designed by CESBM in response to a general need to expand entrepreneurship development activities. The conventional `class room based’ entrepreneurship training programmes cannot train more than 30 potential entrepreneurs at a time. The coverage of beneficiaries, thus, get restricted. Besides, reaching out to a large number of aspirants, particularly in the remote corners of our continent, is a difficult proposition, both in terms of monetary burden as well as time and location constraints. Yet, without doubt, in the wake of opening up of the economy, there is a need for a new breed of entrepreneurs in our continent - enterprising persons to set up business and create employment for a large number of people. To respond to this need of Africa and develop expertise and skills, CESBM evolved this Open Learning Programme.

    Rationale:
    The rationale behind this programme is to:
    • provide training to potential learners to become job creators rather than job seekers;
    • provide a cost effective mode of training in entrepreneurship to those living in remote areas and thus deprived of participating in conventional EDPs ;
    • provide flexibility to suit the needs and aspirations of different categories of learners;
    • provide the facility of learning in one’s own environment, at own pace and convenience;
    • make sizeable contribution quantitatively and qualitatively to the task of strengthening entrepreneurship in the country.

    How Would You Benefit

    The course is so designed as to develop:
    • entrepreneurial traits and motivation as well as the spirit of enterprise;
    • decision- making capabilities required to set up a business venture;
    • expertise to successfully manage an enterprise.

    The programme inputs are both functional and developmental. The study material covers areas like: business opportunity identification and guidance, market assessment, project report preparation, small business management and sources of assistance to facilitate the learner in implementing the business.

    Duration
    The duration of the course is one year. The learning time and pace are flexible; however, it is advisable that the learner carefully plans the time he/she would like to spend on individual study of the inputs.

    The aim of the learner should be to gain knowledge and skills from specially designed study material that would facilitate him/her in launching & successfully managing a business.

  • Bachelor of Corporate Entrepreneurship/Intrapreneurship

    Corporate Entrepreneurship, or Intrapreneurship, is the creation of new businesses, products, or services from inside an organisation to generate new revenue growth through entrepreneurial action.

    Corporate Entrepreneurship works in two ways. An established corporation develops an idea internally, builds the startup, casts it off externally, and then brings the startup back into the wider organisation at a later stage. Or the company identifies an early-stage startup to collaborate with or acquire, and then assimilates the business into the wider organisation. In a rapidly changing business environment, innovating and responding to change via corporate entrepreneurship is key.

    Corporate entrepreneurship can also lead to more productivity and boost morale among a workforce who are given the space and opportunity to tackle new challenges and implement new ideas.

    The idea of what a large corporation is, and should be, is changing. To remain competitive, even established organisations need to become more entrepreneurial and grow innovative new businesses.

    What’s known as corporate entrepreneurship brings together the financial resources and structure of a large corporation with the entrepreneurial energy of startups.

    The rationale for this program is therefore to equip students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function as corporate entrepreneurs and develop professional career in corporate/organisational entrepreneurship. It is also to train and develop human capital capable of dealing with issues in the disciplinary areas of economics (accounting and finance). It would also help develop students’ research, critical thinking, analytical and writing skills.

    Graduates of this option will at the end have competencies in conflict management, human resource planning and management, good governance and training needs identification.

  • Master Of Entrepreneurship (Social Innovation And Entrepreneurship)

    Why this course

    The M.Ent Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship is embedded in a department which is passionate about supporting students who are dedicated to social and environmental change. The CESBM’s School of Social, Public, Corporate, Political Entrepreneurship and Leadership hosts this programme. The programme aim is to promote knowledge exchange and share new methodologies for socially progressive research and entrepreneurship, prompting trans-disciplinary research across real-world contexts. Social innovation is concerned with ideas that address unmet social needs. Socially innovative ideas include restorative justice, hospices, kindergartens, distance learning and traffic calming (Mulgan et al., 2007), amongst others. These ideas are usually brought to fruition through an entrepreneurial process, which is concerned with turning innovations into viable and sustainable business models. Never before has social innovation and entrepreneurship been so central to society: climate change, the threat of pandemics, increase in world population and poverty are only some of the mega-trends that require novel solutions and business models to implement them. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals stem from a global urge to address such issues. In tandem with the latter, research in this area has grown significantly in recent years. This is an important area of research, practice and teaching.

Doctorate in Christian Entrepreneurship

It is of utmost importance to understand that entrepreneurship is a calling and that one represents Christ in the market place. A person’s story or belief can encourage ethical business decision making, philanthropy and a sense of purpose. How to successfully integrate one’s Christian life into business, is part of what the student will be learning here.

The student will discover that his or her faith may influence diverse areas such as leadership strategy, organisational change, economics, finance, marketing and business ethics. Seeing one’s business as a calling and the need to use his business to make disciples as a part of the gains, will be a major focus here.

Most of the Doctoral degrees require the completion of 40 credits beyond the Master’s degree with the option of doing a doctoral dissertation for a portion of the credits. The following degrees require 60 credits beyond the Master’s degree, including a mandatory doctoral dissertation: Doctor of Christian Philosophy, Doctor of Divinity, and Doctor of Theology. These credits may come from a combination of: 1) courses taken; 2) an original dissertation or ministry project; and 3) a practicum or internship experience. The student is expected to work together with the Dean in designing a programme that will meet his desire for growth in the area(s) in which God has placed a passion in his heart.

1. Courses taken: The student may choose any of the courses offered. If he chooses an undergraduate course, additional work will be added to fulfill the graduate-level requirements.

2. Original dissertation or ministry project: This can be an original written work, or the creation of a ministry work. Uniqueness and/or originality will be key evaluation points of this project. If a written project, it should keep a balance between original textual research (in Scripture and secondary literature) and a practical testing of the thesis in real life. Somehow the ministry work or the original written work should add a new perspective to the knowledge and practice of the topic addressed by the thesis.

3. Practicum or internship: We also encourage a portion of the doctoral degree be from real life ministry experience.

4. Limits: A maximum of 20 credits may be awarded for the total of both transfer credits from other institutions and from credits earned for life experience. Of these 20, no more than 10 may come from credits earned for life experience.
